This 1928 FC-2W2 was the first airplane NASA purchased back
when it was
known as NACA. The ship was subsequently transferred to the National Park
Service and became the first airplane the U.S. National Park Service owned.
While with the Park Service, it was stationed in Manteo, N.C., about 5 miles from
Kitty Hawk. It was flown on the Outer Banks by Dave Driskill, a famous Outer
Banks aviator who later became America’s first licensed helicopter pilot. |
